Project Case Study | EGR Star Drilling Rig – EP800 Excels in Engineering Investigation
On March 5, 2025, the EGR EP800 portable full hydraulic drilling rig completed the DXZK105 drilling operation in the Guangxi Xunnan Guanqu Main Tunnel Project. With an average drilling progress of 42 meters per day, it successfully set a new benchmark in the field of hydraulic exploration. More impressively, this operation was carried out by a new team from the Guangxi Hydropower Design Institute who were using a portable drilling rig for the first time. The high efficiency and safety of the equipment received high recognition from the client following the successful completion of the first drill hole.
In the Xunnan Guanqu project, the equipment conducted pressure water tests every 5 meters in the deep-hole section. Despite significantly reducing the pure drilling time, the project achieved a depth of 400.5 meters in 10 days. Compared to traditional vertical shaft drilling rigs, this represents an efficiency increase of 110%, and the project duration was shortened by more than half.
By precisely controlling drilling parameters through the hydraulic system, the EGR EP800 effectively reduces abnormal wear of drilling tools. Coupled with a high-strength alloy drill bit design, the lifespan of the drill bits is extended by 35%, reducing downtime caused by frequent drill bit replacements. This results in a reduction of over 20% in comprehensive costs per hole, making it especially suitable for deep-hole exploration needs.
Traditional vertical shaft drilling rigs rely on highly experienced operators. In contrast, the EGR EP800, with its portable modular design and high level of integration, allows new users to become proficient in operation within just 3 days through systematic start-up services and training provided by EGR service engineers (including theoretical training and hands-on practical instruction). From rig setup, equipment debugging, to crew members becoming proficient in operation, it only takes 3 days. Although the team working on the Xunnan Guanqu project were all "novices" who had never used portable drills before, under the "nanny-level" training provided by EGR engineers, they quickly mastered the operational skills within 3 days and successfully completed daily tasks. It is believed that in the future, this team will be able to achieve even greater accomplishments.
